Ghosts n' Goblins, an old classic has resurfaced again on the Wonder Swan. If you like the side-scrolling 2D platform games, this may be the title you've been waiting for. Personally, I can't stand 2D sidescrollers. "Jump and Kicks" that's my name for them, because usually you can jump and kick from the beginning to the end of the game without losing too many lives. Fortunately, that's not the case with G n'G. You do have to master the timing of the game. The gameplay isn't that bad, but repetitive is one of the first words that comes to mind.

You once again become that Knight guy from the first game in the series (sorry, I don't remember his name offhand). Strangely enough, your girlfriend has been kidnapped! It's up to you to get her back! You start out with your suit of armor and throwing knives. As you go along jumping and shooting you can collect more powerful weapons such as swords, and axes, each with different abilities. Pretty standard fare. The enemies are cookie cutter zombies, ravens, swooping demons, and the like.

One of the worst things about this game is that when more than 3 sprites are moving onscreen at a time there is MASSIVE slowdown! For a B&W handheld that's pretty sad. One of the best things though is the graphics, the sprites are nicely detailed throughout. The end level bosses are pretty creative. The music is a cut above, which is one of the strongest points of the Wonder Swan. I'd like to go into a deeper description of the gameplay, but jump and shoot is about all you get in this title.

Classic or not, the sidescroller is a genre' that is long since deserved a deep, deep grave, but keeps coming back like the zombies in this game.
