Well it's that time to call you football buddies and tell them to march right
over with their PlayStation controllers because it's football season in your
house. You're probably thinking, "Isn't football season a couple of months
away??" Well...yeah but it's beginning a little early because EA Sports has
just released Madden NFL Football 2001. So bust out your foam No. 1 finger,
and wear your favorite football jersey and get ready to play some football!!
Sequels to sports titles tend to out do the original, and this game has
certainly outdone itself! EA Sports has yet again dominated the PlayStation
football scene with its new title with new improvements and features. We see
some improved graphics towards players, game play and tackle animations. New
features include the ability to play in classic uniforms used by the teams of
the past and an extensive playbook used by past and present football coaches.
Other improvements that were also included in the game were a more
understandable menu for certain for its preseason and season mode.
For you extreme football players, an All-Madden Team has been included
with some historical players. They have also added a new feature where you
can read and adjust some of its plays like the pass adjustment and some of
the offensive formation. The Madden Cards have improved to become a little
bit better for example; it allows users trade or risk in-game trading cards
for hidden players, stadiums, and power-ups. And who else can do some great
game commentary but none other than Jim Brown and the great one himself, John
Madden. They add more of realism with some actual stats on certain players
in the game. The good thing is that Madden wasn't a total failure like its
99' series. The thing I loved the most about this Madden title is that the
tackling is set to add a little realism because depending on players weight
and height is based on how hard you can tackle your opponent. EA also added
some great stats for the players by adding their weight and height in the
So the bottom line with this game is that Madden NFL Football 2001 has
definitely made some really good steps into improving the game to make it one
of the best titles for the PS-X system. It kind of makes you think, "Will the
Madden Football game for the PlayStation 2 will be as good as it was for the
original PlayStation?" In my opinion.... Definitely.
